Okay, so we all have heard of ads during events such as the Super Bowl or World Series to attract would be buys while they are engaged watching the big game. One form of advertising I never thought of was advertising during video games. To me, it's hard to believe, but it is happening and will begin to happen more and more very soon. Personally, I do not play video games, I do not see the point of a grown man engaging himself in mind-numbing activity for hours on end.....or it may be the fact that I never really played video games growing up. Either way, I do not play games now, so I do not know how much advertising currently takes place in video games.
Marketing executives are looking to capitalize on the reality that consumers are more likely to digest information while engaged in an activity. What better time to market to individuals than when they are playing video games?? I think it's genius.

Advertising companies are taking advantage every chance they get. I don't play video games either...every now and again you will catch me playing a game of Madden, but for the most part, I don't partake in that activity.
Have you been to the movies lately? They are now advertising before the movies come on. This used to be one of my favorite parts of the whole movie experience. But now some of the previews have been taken away to put advertisements in. Same thing happens when you rent DVD's. It's a frustrating situation.
It makes sense to capitalize on every situation that you can as an advertising oompany. I am sure they will think of many more ways in our lifetime that will amaze us even more.
I dont play video games either. I think its because we are all so damn busy that we are very few of the college population that dont do this. Anyways, when Ive been around the apartment as my roommates play games, Ive actually noticed all the advertising. I mean they dont forget everything. Ive even seen ads on the walls along the Mario Kart track!
Truthfully, this kind of advertising makes me laugh and I would never go purchase anything because they advertised in video games. Another thing that seems to be working are the bands that play the background music on some of these Grand Theft Auto kind of games. Ive seen cds advertised in random places that say "Hit Single from Grand Theft Auto 4!...What a joke
I would love to have the time to play video games. I bought grand theft auto san andreas when it came out a couple years back and have played it maybe twice. And don't even get me started on how much time it takes to run a dynasty in the NCAA football game. The only people who have time to play video games are college students who don't go to class, and apparently Taurean Green.
The in-video game advertising did seem inevitable though. Despite the fact that none of us play them, apparently lots of people do. The proof was when the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 came out this past fall. The frenzy that created was incredible. And for a $600 video game system. Just absurd.
If there's one constant in this world, it's that marketers will capitalize on any opportunity to get their product name in front of people's faces. They must have been giddy when they saw people camping out across the country to get those systems last year.
