I thought Teamwork Sports Online was the bets sports marketing/management site until I came across Sports Marketing Network. I am very surprised that I have not seen other professions establish such sites with the purpose to network with others in the field. Maybe it is because I am more in tuned to what is going on in the world of Sport Management, or maybe they simply do not exist. Are sites like these a sign of things to come? Or do these sites exist simply because sport management is still essentially a very new and unknown discipline?

I do think that this is a sign of greater things to come. I never really look at sport marketing websites, only because I am not very interested in that area of the industry. But I can see how this would be good for someone like yourself who wants to go into that field.
I think this a great networking idea for any field of work. I honestly don't know if any exist for other professions, but they should. I don't of sport management as "new" anymore. I just simply think that it is tough to get your in because it is all about networking. Hence the reason sites like these are so crucial.
Seems like it would be a pretty cool thing to be a part of, but you would have to live in those cities. Teamwork Sports Online can be beneficial to somebody living anywhere in the country. For this website, the "benefits" of networkng can only be accessed if you live in or near one of their 11 cities that they do stuff in. I think in those cities, those meetings would be pretty cool because you would actually get to network with people. As we all know, networking is the most important thing you can do in the sports industry.
If you are not able to live in one of these major sport cities (which ignores Miami by the way?), this website seems useless. I dont need to pay 100 bucks a year to get a 5% discount on SBJ's, or whatever else they were offering. :)
If I were interested in a position in sports marketing, I would join this piece in a heartbeat. I feel like it's entry into their coll, little (although probably not all that little) club.
I worry about anything that charges membership fees for conferences and training and such. For anyone who's thinking about getting involved with this, I'd be worried about the vagueness of the language. I'm sure it'll work out thought, CJ. Good luck.
Hi, The NSMN is the national trade association started in 1998 and run by the industry veterans. The group is open only to those who work in the sports industry and membership covers events, discounts, networking and job matching. The organization is so comprehensive that it remains the only comprehensive trade association for sports marketing in the United States for over a decade. NSMN DOES accept sports professionals from cities outside the chapter markets - in fact NSMN has members in more than 50 markets. New chapters in Dallas and Minneapolis are in the works.
I encourage you to revisit the site and talk with industry leaders who are involved with NSMN! Every major league, team, brand, property, and media company is heavily involved.
